Herman Baden was born in Hannover, Germany, on July 14, 1873, and came to America in 1885 with his father and two brothers and one sister. In 1892 he settled in the Florida, Ohio area and started a sawmill on the east edge of Florida. He continued in the sawing and building materials business until 1912 when he moved to Defiance area to get into the dairy and farming occupation.
He married Ida Marie Meyer in 1903 and she was a seamstress and housewife. Together they had one child Ida Marie Baden in 1906 who married Henry Franklin William Weddelman.
Ida Marie Meyer Baden died shortly after giving birth and Herman Baden remarried and fathered four more children, and died in 1934.
