Frances Hales Crosby was born near Liverpool, England, April 13, 1836. At the age of six she immigrated to America with her parents and settled in New York. They later moved to Ashtabula • County, Ohio, where on August 29, 1855, she married Almiron H. Crosby. They had eight children: Walter, H., Dora Day, Minnie E. Smith, Ola B. Laver, Harry H., Ina I. Bare, Bertha and Almyra.
Almyra, the youngest child, was born January 25, 1876. She married George Julian Babcock on September 14, 1892.
George Julian Babcock was born July 16, 1854, the son of Lorenzo Babcock and Sarah Ann Patrick Babcock. Lorenzo Babcock was born in Jefferson County, New York on February 25, 1825. He moved with his parents to Crawford County, Ohio in 1832 and lived there until 1838 when he moved to Fulton County, Ohio. From there he moved to Henry County in 1842 where he lived until his death. Sarah Ann Patrick was born in Liberty Township, Henry County, Ohio, January 1, 1833, the daughter of Adolphus and Lucy Patrick. She married Lorenzo Babcock April 4, 1849. To this union was born seven children; four sons and three daughters. Two of the sons died in infancy, and daughter Alma, the wife of Dr. S.E. Miller, preceded her in death. The other children were Asceneth Chroninger, Mary Hoover, George Julian Babcock and Alvin E. Babcock.
George and Almyra Babcock had one son, Rollie M. Babcock, born September 28, 1893. On September 20, 1896, Almyra Crosby Babcock died of typhoid fever at the age of twenty years, seven months. Ina Bare, an aunt, took three year old Rollie to live with her and her husband, Darius.
On January 6, 1901, George Babcock married Anna Eliza Russell and they had one son, Russell L. Babcock, May 7, 1902. Mrs. Babcock passed away leaving her baby son. R. Russell, brother of Eliza, took the baby to raise.
When Rollie was thirteen•his father took him to live with him at the home of his grandmother, Sarah Ann Patrick Babcock, on the home place south and west of Liberty Center, Ohio.
When Rollie was seventeen, George took sons Rollie and Russell to Arkansas with him to buy timber land. They bought eighty acres and stayed there seven years.
Rollie met and married Emily Luticia Quantz of Traskwood, Arkansas. Emily was the daughter of Albert Edward Quantz and Betty Allen Crowell.
Albert Edward Quantz was born November 19, 1849 in Ca barus County, North Carolina, to George Theodore Quantz and Lina Pflueger Quantz. Lina Pflueger was born March29, 1827, in Settmarshausen, Germany. She arrived in America at the age of eighteen and was married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 1, 1847 to George Theodore Quantz, who was also born in Germany. They later moved to Mount Pleasant, North Carolina where they raised four children. George Quantz was an assayer, employed by a miner. He died in 1858. Lina Quantz remained in North Carolina until her death. The oldest son, Albert, went to Arkansas. He married Betty Crowell and they had eleven children: Herman, Mollie Beckwith; Frances Harvey, Albert George, Gustavas, Bertie Rigsby, Anna, Emily Babcock, Henry, Steven and Nettie Warford.
Emily (Emma) and Rollie were married December 18, 1913 in the home of the bride in Traskwood, Arkanaas. Their first child, Vernice May, was born May 17, 1915 and another daughter, Sarah Lena was born October 23, 1916.
In 1918 they moved to Ohio where the rest of the children were born: Leona Marie, September 4, 1918; Coral Lucille, July 22, 1920; Warren Edward, September 12, 1922; Orville Lester, March 15, 1924; and Bertha Joan, April 28, 1928.
George Babcock came back to Ohio in 1917 and bought the home where Rollie and Emma raised their family. In 1934 George died at the age of seventy-nine years.
In 1933 Vernice married Frank Deller. They live near Pinconning, Michigan. Their four children are: James Deller, San Antonio, Texas; Charlene Marcus, Midland, Michigan; Judy Bryce, Linwood, Michigan and Linda Tonk, Rhodes, Michigan.
In 1937 Lena married Lawrence Lange of Napoleon, Ohio and they have three daughters. They are Jeanne Balog, Carol Stream, Illinois; Lucille Eickmeier, McClure, Ohio and Lois Serrao, Spokane, Washington.
In 1941 Marie married Clifford Keeler, Sylvania, Ohio. They have three children: Karen Brown, Toledo, Ohio; Kenneth Keeler, Holland, Ohio and Kathleen Troendle of Mira Loma, California.
In 1939 Coral married Lawrence Kessler, Liberty Center, Ohio. They have five children: Lawrence Jr. (Larry), Colton, Ohio; Ruth Ann Myers, Liberty Center, Ohio; Joyce Maassel, Napoleon, Ohio; John Kessler, Wauseon, Ohio and Connie Kinder, Napoleon, Ohio. Warren Babcock was killed in an automobile accident February 2, 1940 enroute to Columbus, Ohio with the Liberty Center High School F.F.A. He had received the State Farmer Degree the previous spring. Orville Babcock married Esther Ordway, Liberty Center, Ohio, January 2, 1947. They live near Ayersville, Ohio. Their children are: Carolyn Cox, Lima, Ohio; Ronald and Thomas, Defiance, Ohio and Ellen,' Ayersville, Ohio. Joan married Clinton Williams, Liberty Center, Ohio, July 2, 1948. They live at Route 2, Napoleon, Ohio. They have four sons: Warren, Fort Collins, Colorado; Dennis, Florida, Ohio; Regan and Michael, Napoleon, Ohio. On December 18, 1963, Rollie and Emma celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at their home near Liberty Center, Ohio. On August 5, 1969, Rollie died after several months illness. Emma, at age eighty-seven, lives in the home where they raised their family. She has twenty-three grandchildren and forty great grandchildren.
