Fri., Jan. 1, 1886 Today we sawed six trees down for wood in the new ground and split some wood on the wood pile. We cleaned out the horse stable. It is muddy.
Sat., Jan. 9, 1886 This morning we put the black sow in the cow stable. Then we got out the bobsled and cleaned out the stables. Paw and Martin got up a jag of fodder with the bobsled from Pike. We sawed a little wood. I shoveled snow on the cellar doors. Paw split some wood. It is hickory.
Wed., Jan. 13, 1886 Paw and Sanford sawed a beach tree down for boat runners, and Sant hauled them to the sawmill.
Sat., Jan. 16, 1886 We cleaned out the horse and sheep stables. Then we sawed some wood and split it. I went to Malinta. We got a letter from Pennsylvania. Mart and I took a shock of fodder over to Grandma with our boat. We got her kettle and a jag of kettle wood. We got ready for butchering. Paw cleaned out the pig pens. The road is good for the wagon.
Mon., Jan. 25, 1886 Paw got the horse shod in Malinta. He put a letter in the post office. We sawed a few cuts of wood.
Sat., Jan. 30, 1886 We went to Malinta and took two sticks of oak wood up for to make baskets.
Tues., Feb. 2, 1886 The sun shone today. It is Ground Hog's Day. He could see his shadow. We sawed some dry wood. We can see the gas well light at Findlay this evening.
Fri., Feb. 12, 1886 The cistern pump broke.
Sat., Feb. 13, 1886 We fixed the cistern pump.
Tues., Feb. 16, 1886 We are feed-ing hay. The roads are so bad that we can not haul fodder.
Sat., Feb. 20, 1886 I cut Martin's hair and he cut mine.
Sun., Feb. 21, 1886 I cut Asa's hair and Martin cut Amos's.
Thurs., Mar. 4, 1886 Paw hauled some corn fodder for a man in Malinta. He made a bushel basket for us.
Wed., Mar. 17, 1886 Maw and I were to Napoleon . . . I got a U.S. History.
Fri., Mar. 19, 1886 Mart and I were down to church at Spangler's. (Turkey Foot Chapel)
Sat., Mar. 27, 1886 Mart and I made a boat.
Sun., Mar. 28, 1886 Mart and I were boating on the creek with our boat.
Mon., Apr. 5, 1886 Paw was to the Election.
Easter, Apr. 25, 1886 We were over to Grandma's. Martin and I and the boys hid 19 dozen and 9 eggs. The trees are in blossom and the wheat and grass are growing fast. We put the hogs in the woods.
Tues., Apr. 27, 1886 We harrowed our new ground and picked roots.
Wed., Apr. 28, 1886 We harrowed and furrowed our new ground and burned the roots and stumps.
Fri., May 14, 1886 Paw and Martin plowed at Pike. I replanted the popcorn and sweet corn. Asa and I were to Malinta. I planted a little walnut tree. We had our last sourkraut today. It was a hot sultry day. It is raining a thunderstorm now.
Wed., Mar. 9, 1887 Father helped Sanford husk corn today. It is muddy.
Sun., Mar. 20, 1887 Mart and I were to Sunday School in Malinta.
May 9, 1887 The trees are in bloom, that is, the buds that were not frozen. They are harrowing the corn field. I got a pocketbook today. It cost 75 cents. I got a pair of shoes at $1.40. We had a mess of mushrooms for supper.
June 26, 1887 The narrow gauge was changed to a standard track today. Martin and I were in Grelton. Wheat is ripening fast. Corn is growing fine.
Aug. 3, 1887 I was in Hamler this
forenoon.
Aug. 30, 1887 We finished cutting corn in the corner field. It is awful dry. We can't plow the ground is so hard. It is the dryest time ever known in Henry County, Ohio. The Malinta Band is playing now.
