James and Luella Babcock

Son of John and Clara (Crockett) Babcock was born on October 29, 1898 in rural Malinta, and spent my childhood there.

On May 1, 1920, I married Luella Baden, daughter of Henry and Mary (Welding) Baden, her birthdate was July 23, 1901. After we were married, we moved to Lorain, Ohio, and we lived there ten years. I worked at the following places in Lorain: National Tube Co., B. & O. and D.T.&I. Railroads, Lorain Journal, and Lorain Times Herald. We then moved to McClure and I worked for the D.T.&I. and Cloverleaf Railroads; next I worked for Spicer Manufacturing Co. in Toledo for 21 years till my retirement. We lived a few years in Toledo while I was at Spicers.

Our children are: Orville born March 11, 1921; Lavonne born February 26, 1924; Jim Jr. born June 8, 1927; Lois born January 20, 1930; and Clara born August 13, 1935. The first four children were born in Lorain County and Clara was born in Henry County at McClure, Ohio.

Luella and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary May 1, 1953, and Luella passed away on June 15, 1953. Later in life I married Gladys Robb and she passed away May 25, 1964.

My favorite pastime is fishing and in the spring it's hunting mushrooms. My home is in McClure on Carl Street.

My son Orville married Leona Junge, daughter of Gustav and Veda (Casteel) Junge, on August 5, 1942. Their children are: Richard, Robert, and Joy. Richard married Linda Sigler and they have two children, Christine and Richard Jr. Robert married Mary Cathrine Carder. They all live in Henry County.

Lavonne married Earl Kelly on November 1, 1947, and he passed away July, 1966. She married Joe Parzych in 1967. They live in Toledo, Ohio.

James Jr. married Eileen Donahue, daughter of Dennis and Pearl Donahue, on October 2, 1948. Their children are Faith, Dawn, James, and Dennis. Dennis died September 18, 1969. They live in Toledo, Ohio.

Lois married Ivan Fish on July 31, 1948. Their children are Gary, Michael, Ronald, Madalyn, Duane, Mary. Gary married Barbara Barnes and they have two children, Terrance and Kenneth. Michael married Juanita Hodge and their children are Michael Jr. and Christopher.

Clara married William Fish on April 5, 1952. Their children are Linda, William, Sharon, Jerry, and Larry. Linda married James Collum July 1971. They live in Toledo, Ohio.
