The name of Foncannon is of Germanic origin and the family were early settlers of the state of Pennsylvania.
Joseph Foncanon, as it was then spelled, was born in Pennsylvania, and married Mary, or Polly, Poorman, also a native of that state. They were married about 1812, and came to Ohio shortly after their marriage.
Their son, John C. Foncanon was born in Perry County, Ohio and in 1825, the f3mily moved to Seneca County about three miles south of Tiffin along the Sandusky River.
Joseph and Mary died in Seneca County and buried there. They were members of the Reformed Church. They had eight children: John C., Michael, William Dow, Thomas Jefferson, who never married, Henry J., Mary A., Joseph W. and Oliver. Joseph W. died at Green Springs, Ohio.
John C. Fancanon, who changed his name to Foncannon, was married in Seneca County to Rebecca Ann Kri dler. Rebecca was born in 1825 one mile east of Tiffin in Seneca County. Her parents were Samuel Kridler, born Pennsylvania, 1800, died 1872 in Tiffin, and his wife who was born in 1804 and died in 1875/80. John Foncannon died on March 15, 1892 and Rebecca died April 1, 1908.
John and Rebecca Kridler Foncannon had three children born in Seneca County. They moved to Liberty Township, Henry County, Ohio, about -1855. Their children were Samuel L., had two daughters, Maud B. who lived in Indiana, and Estella who lived in Columbus, Ohio; Hiram Howard, born in Tiffin on July 12, 1848; Joseph Winchester, resided Seneca County, had Avo who married and lived in Toledo; George U. lived in Liberty Tosnwhip, had no issue; Mary E. married Jocob Liest, had one daughter, Nettie, who lived in California; William H. died as a young man; and Charles why died leaving two sons.
