John Davis Family

John Davis was born in Pennsylvania, date of birth is not known. The 1850 Census gives his age as fifty seven years, but th 1860 Census gives his age then as seventy-three years.

John married Orpha Baird Gardner Collier, widow of James Collier, on December 9, 1832. They were married in Wayne County, Ohio, by Edwin Booth. Orpha Baird was born in 1806 in New York state and died in Henry County in 1862. Th Davis marriage was her third marriage.

Shortly after John and Orpha were married they moved to Richfield Township, section twelve, Henry County, Ohio. A child, Leicetta Davis, born 1841 in Ohio, is thought to have been John's daughter by another marriage.

Children born to John and Orpha Davis were Nancy E. Davis, born in 1843 in Richfield Township, married William Wilcox who was born in 1844 in Ohio. The Wilcox children were Florence, born in 1861, in Ohio, and Cornelia, born in 1863, in Ohio; Rebecca E. Davis, the second child of John and Orpha, was born in 1845; and their son, Thomas Davis, was born in 1847.
