George Davis was born in Dorchestershie, England on February 5, 1816. He died in 1888 at Napoleon, Ohio. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Davis of Dorchestershire. As far as is known, they remained in England. George married Charlotte Hammond in Dorchestershire, England. Charlotte was born on June 5, 1818, in Dorchestershire, and died in 1890 in Napoleon, Ohio. Their issue, all born in England, were Elizabeth Jennie, born March 14, 1850, married Lyman Gunn on November 20, 1870; William G.; Henry J.; Harriet A.; and John C. Emma M., and Mary A. were born after they arrived in the United States. In 1854, the family emigrated to Lorain County, Ohio and landed in Cleveland in June, 1854, In 1863, they moved to Ridgeville Township, then to Napoleon Township, Henry County, Ohio. They left Liverpool, England on the sailing vessel, ST. JOHN, then went to Canada, up the St. Lawrence to Quebec and Montreal, and finally across Lake Erie to Cleveland.
