Ernest Aschemeier was born on August 31, 1888, in Adams Township, Defiance County, Ohio. He was a son of Henry F. John Aschemeier and Anna Norden Aschemeier.
Ernest had three brothers. William was born on March 14, 1886, and died on May 6, 1973. Arthur was born on June 10, 1891, and died on September 2, 1914, in a threshing accident. Edgar was born on May 7, 1897, and is living in Defiance, Ohio with his wife, Sophie.
Ernest married Alma Norden on March 16, 1916, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Defiance County, Ohio. Alma was born on July 29, 1891 and was the daughter of Karl and Doris Cordes Norden. Ernest and Alma had three children, Lorena Helen, Eldor Fred and Raymond John Aschemeier.
Before Ernest was married he spent about four years in California, where he owned and operated a tobacco shop with Albert Schroeder, in a shop located on Market Street in San Francisco, from about 1910 until 1914.
After Ernest and Alma were married they bought a farm in Ridgeville Township in Section 25. Ernest farmed and also did threshing with Louis Helmke.
In 1950, Ernest and Alma moved off the farm and into a new home in Ridgeville which they built. After moving to town, Ernest worked as a carpenter for Mel Lanzer and later did odd jobs of carpentry repair work and painting.
Ernest and Alma were members of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners. Ernest held various jobs and worked many years on the Cemetery Committee. Alma was a member of the Ladies Aid and supported the projects of the Aid Society.
In March, 1966, the Senior Group of the church gave Ernest and Alma a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party.
Alma died on January 16, 1969, and Ernest died on October 18, 1977. They are buried in the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery at Ridgeville Corners, Ohio.
