Walter Aderman

Ernest Aderman (father of Walter) was born on Nov. 28, 1865. Ernest came to America from Germany when he was about 16 years old. He married Emma Hicksted (Walter's mother) on Dec. 25, 1889. Emma was born on Nov. 28, 1870. She was the daughter of Albert Hicksted and Freda Gottschalk.

Ernest and Emma Aderman were tenant farmers near Napoleon, Ohio. In 1898 they purchased land southeast of Malinta, Ohio and farmed their land. Their children were Libbie (Geist), Walter, Rudolph, Ida (Rike), Esther (Overhulse), and Olga (Crawford). Ernest Aderman died on May 24, 1934 and Emma (Hicksted) Aderman died on April 26, 1931. They are buried at Glenwood Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.

Walter Aderman was born on April 26, 1892. He married Bertha Hartman on Dec. 23, 1915. The following is her history. Bertha was born on Nov. 1, 1894. She was the daughter of Richard Hartman (July 16, 1860-May 7, 1934) and Mellie (Foor) Hartman (Sept. 10, 1872-Sept. 4, 1937). Their children were Bertha Aderman, Charles, Cora Fronce, Harvey, Harry, Grace Stelmachowicz, and Harley.

Richard Hartman cleared the woods and built a log house on Co. Rd. 8, Monroe Twp. He farmed here. Richard and Mellie Hartman are buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.

Levi Hartman (Oct. 2, 1829-June 1923) and Mary Tohman (Aug. 16, 1830-June 2, 1911) were the parents of Richard Hartman (Bertha's father). Levi was born in Bedford Co., Penn. He was the son of John and Catherine (Fonner) Hartman. Mary Tohman was the daughter of Conrad and Lena Tohman. Levi and Mary Hartman were married on May 14, 1853. Their children were Catherine, William, Levi, Mary E., Henry, Richard, Ella, Joshua, and three died in infancy. Levi Hartman was the last suvivor in Ohio of the Mexican War. Levi and Mary Hartman are buried at Forest Hill, Napoleon, Ohio.

Mellie (Foor) Hartman (Bertha's mother) was the daughter of Erven Foor (1837-1909) and Susan Spengler (1837-1901). Their children were Nora, Bertha, Mellie, Minor, Rollie, Calvin, Harley, Will, and Ed. Erven and Susan Foor are buried at Hoy Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.

Walter Aderman and Bertha (Hartman) .Aderman had these children. Julian was born on July 6, 1917 and died Aug. 6, 1973. He married Isabel Geist (born June 5, 1918) on May 30, 1940. Their son is Roger. Donald was born on Feb. 26, 1919. He married Betty Hawk (born Mar. 1926) on Oct. 26, 1944. Their children are Ann, Mary Lou, Peggy, Donald Jr., and Richard. Marcile was born on Jan. 30, 1923. She married Thornton Leonard (born Nov. 4, 1922) on Mar. 5, 1949. Their children are Wallace, Randal, and Linda. Burl was born on Mar. 31, 1927 and died on Sept. 16, 1976. He married Francis Gordon (born Dec. 7, 1931) on June 21, 1953. Their children are James and Jeanne. Myra Jean was born on Nov. 9, 1932. She married Carl Gappinger (born Feb. 4, 1928) on April 7, 1957. Their children are Carla and Lori.

Walter and Bertha Aderman lived on a farm on Co. Rd. 8, Monroe Twp. Walter was a farmer and at one time did custom combining. They were members of United Bretheren Church in Malinta, Ohio. Walter died July 12, 1963 and Bertha died June 16, 1968. They are buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.
