Dewitt C. Crawford

Dewitt Clinton Crawford, son of Calvin C. and Elizabeth (Moses) Crawford, was born at Waldo, Marion County, Ohio on December 13, 1845. He lived on farms in Brown County, Illinois and Marion County, Ohio before coming to Liberty Township, Henry County, Ohio with his mother in 1864. On April 2, 1874 he married Amanda Elizabeth Baum, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Baum. She was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on November 27, 1851. After the Crawfords were married they lived on a farm in section 31 of Liberty Township where they raised five children. Their children were: Lawrence Clinton, Elizabeth Jane, Pearl May, Asa B. and Homer E. Crawford. The family were members of the Christian Union church at Olive Chapel. Dewitt Crawford died in Liberty Twp. on Sept. 9, 1910 and his wife Amanda died on Feb. 25, 1925. They were buried at Morrison Cemetery.

Lawrence Clinton Crawford was born on March 27, 1875 and he died in 1932 at Michigan. He never married.

Elizabeth Jane Crawford was born in Liberty Township on Feb. 24, 1881. She married Warren Otis Zollars on June 16, 1908. Warren was the son of Benton and Susan (Brown) Zollars and he was born at Massillon, Stark County, Ohio on Sept. 29, 1870. His father, Benton Zollars, was a director of the Henry County Infirmary. Warren was a farmer near Liberty Center. He died at Napoleon on July 9, 1959 and his wife Elizabeth died on Dec. 4, 1960 at Liberty Township.

Asa B. Crawford was born on June 14, 1889 in Liberty Township and he died unmarried on Sept. 15, 1910 at Liberty Township. His early death was caused by typhoid fever contracted from impure well water on the family farm.

Pearl May Crawford was born on Nov. 6, 1883 in Liberty Township. On November 8, 1906 she married Charles A. Clifton. Charles was born on Sept. 26, 1882 at Freedom Township. His parents were R.M. and Ella (Patterson) Clifton.

Charles Clifton was a veteran of the Spanish American War and served in Co. M of the 30th Regiment Infantry. The Cliftons lived at Adrian, Michigan where Pearl died in 1950. Charles Clifton died on June 6, 1965 at the Veteran's Hospital at Ft. Wayne, Indiana. They were buried at Morrison Cemetery.

Homer E. Crawford was born on May 28, 1892 at Napoleon, Ohio and he died at Madison, Tennessee on June 13, 1976. He married Olga Aderman and they had two children, James W. and Helen E. Crawford. They lived at Napoleon for many years.
