William Art

William and Elizabeth Art were residents of Standley, Flatrock Township, Henry County, from April, 1876 until their deaths. Some of fheir six children are still in Henry County in 1976.

William Art was elected a township trustee of Flatrock Township on April 2, 1883.

William Art was born on February 24, 1835 near Brugenborn, Germany, the son of Frederick and Eve Art. He immigrated in July, 1848 to Tuscarawas County, Ohio and lived there until March, 1876 when he moved to Standley in Henry County, Ohio. William died November 24, 1907 in Henry County and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery at Defiance, Ohio.

On April 28, 1856, William Art married Elizabeth Sundheimer who had been born on May 22, 1837 at Wurtemberg, Germany to Adam and Catherine Sundheimer. She died in Henry County, Ohio in 1919.

There were six children born to William and Elizabeth. They were: Catherine (Kate), born January 21, 1858 and died May 1941 who married Daniel Degler. Callie, born February 22, 1859, married Otto Goldenstar. William Henry was born on June 15, 1868 and died in 1945. He married on December 23, 1890, Emma Lipp. Herman Art was born May 1, 1870 and died in 1922. He married Margaret Anspacher who died in 1965. Lewis Art born March 11, 1872, died October 5, 1937, married Emma Steinmaier who died in 1936. Ida Art was born on April 9, 1874 and died in 194CI. She married Milton Knipp who died in 1951.

The children of Catherine and Daniel Degler were Albert, died 1959, married June B. Knight, who died in 1962. Lillian who died in 1959 and was married to Herman Hane. Willis married Hildegarde Orthwein. Carl married Ether Fritz who died in 1935. Emma Degler, born in 1879 and died in 1969, married Delbert Kiser, who died in 1938. The youngest Degler child was Irene who died at the age of seven years.

Callie Art and Otto Goldenstar had five children: Gusta who married Charles Conkling, Dora, Eddie, Paul and Art.

William Henry and Emma Lipp had one son, Carl William who was born in 1891 and died in 1941. In 1916 he married Julia Jeannette Connell. Carl William was born on September 16, 1891 at Chicago Lawn, Illinois and died May 24, 1941 at Seattle, Washington. There were two children born to them: Richard Carl on September 16, 1918 and married on November 14, 1941 Katherine H. Edwards. Richard and Katherine had three children: Richard, Jr. born in 1943 married in 1968 Gwen Duffy. Richard was born at Evanston, Illinois and Gwen at Haddenfield, New Jersey. Henry Warren Art was born in 1944 at Norfolk, Virginia. In 1966 he married Pamela Beall of Evanston, Illinois. Jonathon J. Art was born in 1950 at Evanston, Illinois and married, in 1973, Susan Moench.

The second son born to Carl William and Emma Lipp was James William Art born June 1, 1925 and married, in 1950, Joan Vilas. They had Susan Elizabeth, born in 1953, and James Brian, born in 1955.

Julia Jeannette Connell was the daughter of John Powers Connell and Anna McClanahan. Carl William Art and Julia Connell were married on September 25, 1916. Julia had been born January 24, 1893 at St. Paul, Minnesota, and she died November 3, 1966 at Walnut Creek, Calif.
