The first record of the Corbett family is when the parents of Timothy Corbett and their nine children sailed from County Cort, Ireland, to America in 1859. They were a Catholic family and had six boys and three girls.
Timothy was born at sea just before their arrival in America. After landing, the family rested in New York, then came to Toledo where part of the family stayed. Timothy later went to Grelton, Ohio, where he worked at the Dewey Stave Company factory. He was a fine tailor and made many suits of clothes for men in the Grelton vicinity. His mother was a fine seamstress.
At Grelton, Timothy married Lucretia Long, daughter of Daniel Long, a Civil War veteran, and Honor Pratt Long from near Maumee, Ohio. Timothy and Lucretia had children, Jerry, Bessie, Kathryn, Anna, Joe, Nettie and Elizabeth. Later, Lucretia Long Corbett married David Ball and had four daughters, Jane, Eva, Golda and Stella Ball.
Timothy lived in different towns, then went back to Grelton, became ill there, and died at the home of his daughter, Nettie, in January, 1925, in Grelton, at the age of sixty-six years.
Jerry Corbett died at an early age. Bessie, a nun, whose name was changed to Sister Mildred, was at "The Good Shepherd" in Detroit, Michigan, and died there. Kathryn married Charles Black, of Columbus, Ohio. They had no issue. Anna married William Spoo of Anderson, Indiana, and had William, Lawrence, James, Anna, and Marie. Their children are William who married Susan Gerhart in 1932 and had Dorothy, Robert, Joan, Nancy and Pheoba, who reside in all parts of the states, and Marie who married Charles Pierce- field, Sr., in 1936. Other children of Ralph and Elizabeth Allen are Frank who married Kathryn Middleton, and has no issue; Edward who died in June, 1944, in the invasion of Normandy, and was married to Evelyn Piercefield and had a child, Carol Lott; Annabelle Allen who married August Lulfs and had Ronald, and twins, Margaret Marie and Mary Ann. The Corbett family is proud of their Irish ancestry and the ancestors that taught us that to have achievement, we must work for it.
