Zadok Cooley lived in Genessee County, New York, when he married Susan Patterson. Since he died in Genesee County, Michigan, on October 15, 1855, not much else is known about him since he nver lived in Henry County, Ohio.
His wife, Susan Patterson Cooley, was born on June 20, 1808 at Berry, Orange County, Vermont. Her parents’ names are not known.
She moved to Alexandria, Genessee County, New York, and met and married Zadok on December 31, 1829. They had eleven children, 5 boys and 6 girls.
The family moved to Geauga County, Ohio, then to Genesee county, Michigan. Their children were born in these counties.
After Zadok's death, Susan returned to Geauga County, Ohio. In 1874, she came to Ridgeville Township, Henry County, Ohio to live with her daughter, Mrs. H.L. Chapman.
For more than seventy years, Susan was a profound Christian and member of the Methodist church.
Four of the Cooley sons served during the Civil War and one son was killed fighting at the Battle of Rosaca.
Susan Cooley died at the H.L. Chapman residence on February 4, 1899, at the age of ninety years, seven months and fourteen days. She was survived by three sons and five daughters. Her funeral was at the Ridgeville Methodist church.
