Theophilus and Juna Veno Claty were born in Northern France as their parents had been. Theophilus was a baker. In 1875, the Claty family, consisting of four sons and one daughter, set out for the United States. They landed in New York, then traveled overland to Milton, Wood County, Ohio. Theophilus purchased land and died in 1901 at the age of seventy- three. Juna died in 1909 at the age of seventy years. All their children were born in France except for the youngest, Mary Claty.
Their son, Victor Claty, was twelve years of age when the family came to America. He married in 1891 and bought land in Washington Township, Henry County, Ohio, in section 13.
Victor Claty and Norah McEarnner were married in 1891 and immediately started living on the land that Victor had bought. Norah was the daughter of Thomas and Anna McEarnner, of Madison County, Ohio. She was born in 1868, and just a small girl when her family came to Washington Township, Henry County. Her father died in Washington Township at the age of sixty-five and her mother lived to be past seventy: They were devout Catholics.
Mr. and Mrs. Claty had two children: Thomas and Leon Claty.
