Samuel Chrobarger was born in 1829 in Alsace-Lorraine. At the time of his birth it was under French rule, so he was born a Frenchman. He spoke both French and German fluently. He died in 1909. Samuel was twenty years old when he came to the United States in 1849.
His first wife's name is not known but he had two daughters by this marriage, Emmett and one whose name is not known.
After the Civil War, Samuel came to Ohio from Pennsylvania, and married Kathryn Andrix Obenour, a widow whose first husband had died while in Service in the Union Army. She was from a settlement of Dutch immigrants in Pennsylvania, possibly Pottsville. Samuel and Katryn had three sons: Samuel, Jr., Charles Henry, and Arthur.
Samuel died at the age of two years.
Charles H. was born on September 20, 1877, and died on March 12, 1943. He married Jennie E. Benskin, daughter of Charles M. and Lucy E. Back Benskin, on September 6, 1903. Lucy was born on November 27, 1887 and died on December 9, 1960.
Arthur was born on May 26, 1880, and died on November 9, 1904. He married Anna Benskin, sister of Jennie. They had two daughters: Nina Kathryn married Lowell Bleckner and had a son, Charles L. Bleckner. Donna Belle married Walter Shaffer and had one son, Jack Shaffer.
