Alonzo A. and Margaret Taylor Chapman were early settlers in Ridgeville Township of Henry County, Ohio.
Alonzo was born in 1811, the son of Thurot F. Chapman who settled in Lorain County, Ohio, in 1817.
Margaret Taylor was born to William Taylor and his wife in 1814, in Thompkins County, New York. The Taylor family settled in Lorain County, Ohio, in 1829.
Alonzo and Margaret were married in 1832. She was always called Peggy. They had four sons and three daughters. One son died in childhood.
Alonzo split his land into four parts and built a house for himself and each of his sons so that their homes were close to each other on the adjoining four corners. Herbert Shibler lives on the original Alonzo farm. The house was torn down in the 1940's and a new one built. Henry Wittenberg owns the east farm on the south side of U.S. 6. Schuette's owned the east farm on the north side of U.S. 6. Genevieve Eicher owns the west farm on the south side of U.S. 6., that was known as the William T. Chapman farm. The last three farms have the original houses still standing.
