Henry E. Cary was born in Huron County in 1838 and came to Henry County with his parents in 1846. He was a son of Joel and Harriet Ransom Cary.
Henry Cary married Amelia M. Roach, (born in Providence, Lucas County, Ohio in 1845 to Samuel and Susan Roach) in Napoleon in 1866.
Henry Cary enlisted in Company G., 163rd Ohio National Guard as a lieutenant. His brother, Harlem P. Cary, served with the 68th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
Henry Cary established a grocery in Napoleon in 1860.
