J. Fred Busch was born in the village of Hemma, Germany, in the year 1830. In 1861 J. Fred, his wife and three sons, John Fred (born in Hesse, Germany, in 1852), William, and Edwin left Bremen, Germany, on a mail boat and landed in New York City, 14 days later. Mr. Busch and family intended to settle in Missouri, but the Civil War ended their western migration in Monroe Township, Henry County, Ohio. He purchased 80 acres of land, located 4 miles in the heart of the woods on the banks of School Creeks in Section 6, Monroe Twp., now County Road L, 3/4 mile east of Route 108. There Mr. and Mrs. Busch established a home where a son, John, was born. They started at once to develop the farm, but J. Fred did not live to see his ambitions realized, passing away in 1867 at the age of 37.
The widow of J. Fred Busch later married Christ Busch and to this union were born Henry and George Busch.
John Fred Busch grew up on the Monroe Twp. farm, attended Kratz School during the winter, but much of his education came in the school of hard work and experience. Eventually he purchased the homestead farm, where the family lived until retirement in 1909.
John Fred Busch was married in Fla-frock Twp., Henry Co., to Elizabeth Knipp, who was born in that township, April 29, 1853, and there reared and educated. Six children were born to them: Millie who married William Thiele, a Chicago grocer, had three children, Walter, Cora, and Fred; Cora married Henry Hoff, Monroe Twp. farmer, and had one son, Willis; John married Lydia Hoff ani had two sons, Arthur and Donald; Noah married Margaret Fetter; Caroline married Fred Ritz, co-owner of Heller-Aller Co., and had a daughter, Elizabeth; Fred C. married Clara Huber and had two daughters, Kathryn and Amelia.
