Albert Anthony was born September 19, 1860 in Crawford County, Ohio. He was the second son of Daniel Anthony and Mary Ann Quaintance. In 1862 his family moved to Henry County to the farm his father had bought in 1860. Albert and his brothers -Elmer and William, as they became of working age, helped clean and drain their portion of the Black Swam'p. So he learned at an early age the value of hard work.
On December 12, 1886, he was married to Ida Ann Macklin. Ida was born on June 6, 1862, the daughter of George and Sarah Shannon Macklin. Albert and Ida rented a small house close to the home farm. This house later burned down. Then with lumber from the farm, he built the home in McClure that is now owned by Mary Hatfield. At that time, he worked at the stave factory located on what is now Rt. 65, north of Rt. 6, for the sum of $1.00 per day.
Ida was a skilled dressmaker so she sewed for the public and lined caskets for J. Randolph, the local undertaker who made the caskets himself.
In 1888, on July 21, a son, Howard M., was born and on June 26, 1893, a daughter named Mary Grayce was born.
About the year 1897, due to the illness of his wife's father, Albert moved his family to the Macklin dairy farm in Licking County, one and one half miles from Newark, Ohio. He helped operate the farm with Ida's brother, George Purdy Macklin.
On October 25, 1899, a daughter, Mildred Ruth, was born.
In 1902, after the death of Mr. Macklin and the marriage of G. Purdy Macklin, they came back to Henry County to take over the Daniel Anthony farm with brother, William, on the retirement of Daniel to Findlay. In 1910, his bachelor brother, William, died and as Albert felt unable to farm the 280 acres alone, in 1911, he built a new home on what is now Rt. 6 on the 60 acres he had bought in 1906 from his father. He farmed successfully with one team, but with advancing age, he rented the fields to others.
Ida Anthony died on April 21, 1925, after an industrious life. She had shared her home with a sick cousin and took in an orphan boy until he was old enough to be on his own. They were faithful members of the Methodist church in McClure and Ida a member of the Ladies Society for which she worked diligently.
After sharing his home with a sister- in-law and her husband, James and Catherine Burnsides, he was left alone again on the death of Mr. Burnsides. Then in 1928, his youngest daughter, Mildred and husband, Carl Rowland, moved to the farm to be with him.
Albert loved growing fruit and flowers, so spent his declining years tending a lovely garden. He also loved to travel and took many trips with relatives and friends.
At the age of 86 years, he suffered a six month illness but survived four more years and died on May 30, 1951 at the age of 90 years.
Howard M. Anthony married Aileen Forquer of Toledo in 1910. They lived on the Daniel Anthony farm for a few years until he became a fireman on the New York Central Railroad, at which time they moved to Toledo. Howard later married Mildred Smith of Toledo. On retirement he built a home on Rt. 65, south of McClure and spent ten years there. He passed away August 17, 1968, at the age of 80 years. Mildred died on May 16, 1974
Grayce Anthony married LeRoy L. Buck of Toledo on January 1, 1920. He was a carpenter and they made their home in Toledo. Three children were born to them: Meridith Ruth, born June 8, 1921; and twins, Richard and Phyllis born August 20, 1927. Grayce died February 6, 1970.
Mildred R. Anthony married Carl E. Rowland on June 15, 1921. Three children were born to them: June Elizabeth, born on May 8, 1923; Robert S. born on January 8, 1925; and Ruth Anne, born October 11, 1938. Carl E. passed away on June 30, 1974.
