Ben H. Young, 75, a lifetime Deshler resident and for the past 20 years Henry County Auditor, died Sunday evening at Wood county hospital of a respiratory condition. He had been hospitalized about two weeks.
Mr. Young had at one time conducted a grocery store in Deshler and later was a railway freight and express clerk. He was named deputy auditor by the then county auditor Clida Fraas.
Twenty years ago he was elected county auditor and continued in his office until his death. However, due to poor health, he did not run for re-election to the term which commences March 1st.
The vacancy caused by Mr. Young's death will be filled by Henrietta Huner for the unexpired term until March 1, when Gilbert Thurston will take office.
Mr. Young was born in Deshler June 16, 1891, a son of Jacob and Sara (Weatherhead) Young.
Mr. Young's first wife precedes him in death. He is survived by his second wife, the former Nina Davis, whom he married in 1944, as well as daughters, Mrs. Rachel Wolff, Maumee, and Mrs. Jane Rosebrook, Napoleon. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive as well as a sister, Mrs. Eunice Oman, Mt. Blanchard, Ohio, and brother, William, of McComb.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Deshler.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Dubbs Funeral Home, Deshler, by the Rev. Gordon Johnson. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
