Elmer Allen Passes Thursday
Again, Death has sounded the knell of parting day, for another of Deshler's well-known citizens, in the passing of Elmer I. Allen, after a lingering illness of many months.
The deceased was the son of Benjamin F. and Susanna E. Allen, and was born in Shelby Co., O., June 13, 1874, and departed this life in Deshler, O., Thursday, Dec. 8, 1938, having attained the age of 64 yrs., 5 mo. and 25 days.
On February 23, 1918, he was united in marriage to Mary Deveny Zernhel, who survives.
And besides his faithful companion, there is left in sorrow, one step-son, Charles E. Zernhel, two granddaughters and one one grandson.
There are also, two nephews and three nieces.
Two sisters had preceded to the 'Realm beyond the vale.'
Aside from the immediate family and the entire circle of kinsfolk, his friends about town, and in the community at large, are numbered as legion.

Mr. Allen had been a faithful Baltimore and Ohio Railroad employee for a number of years -- until failing health had frustrated his labor activities for the many months past.
Mr. Allen was almost a pioneer fixture of Deshler, as the greater portion of his life was spent in this community.
Of his immediate parental family, he was the last.
Of his own family, only his wife survives.

Funeral services were held Sunday, in St. Paul's U. B. Church, Deshler with Rev. J. V. Bigelow, pastor officiating.
Interment was made in Woodlawn cemetery under the direction of the Rader Funeral Home.
