H. Lee Hornung, 69, of rural Holgate died Sunday morning at his home. Born in New Bavaria, Aug. 20, 1921, he was the son of Andrew and Gertrude (Wolf) Hornung. On June 18, 1943 he married Jeannette Snyder, and she survives. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he was a 29 year employee of the Campbell Soup Co., Napoleon, retiring in 1986. He was a life-time member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, New Bavaria, the Holgate American Legion, and the New Bavaria V.F.W. Also surviving are two daughters, Debra Zachrich of New Bavaria and Mary Huber of Hamler; a brother, Paul of Columbus; and four grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, in Emanuel's United Church of Christ, New Bavaria, Rev. Francis Turpin officiated. Entombment was in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, where a joint unit from the Holgate American Legion and the New Bavaria V.F.W. accorded military rites.
