Funeral services for Doris L. Van Scoyoc, 81, or Route 1, Deshler were held Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home in Deshler, the Rev. Marilyn Chivington officiating. Burial was in McComb Union Cemetery. Mrs. Van Scoyoc died at 8 a.m. Saturday at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was born Nov. 2, 1909 in Pleasant Township, Hancock County to Charles Wesley and Pearl (Kelley) Swaim. She married Alva Van Scoyoc on Dec. 31, 1935 and he died July 30, 1990. Surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Kenneth (Nan) Rider II of Deshler and Mrs. Duane (Lindy) Laux of McComb; seven grandchildren. Mrs. Van Scoyoc was a registered nurse, having worked for many years at the Oak Grove Nursing Home in Deshler. She served on the nursing home's original board of directors and was past president for 17 years of the nursing home's auxiliary group. She received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Michigan in 1931 and graduated with honors in 1934 from the university's school of nursing. She was a member of the Research Club in Deshler. She was also a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church near Deshler and where she taught Sunday School for several years.
