Alva W. Van Scoyoc, 85, of Route 1, Deshler, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years. He was born Aug. 28, 1904 in Henry County to John W. and Ardella (Rutter) Van Scoyoc. He married Doris Swaim on Dec. 31, 1935 and she survives. Also surviving are two daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Nan) Rider II of Deshler and Mrs. Duane (Lindy) Laux of McComb; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Galen (Martha) Leatherman of Ashland. Mr. Van Scoyoc was a farmer. He served as a Bartlow Township Trustee for 16 years. He was a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church, Deshler. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, the Revs. Delmar Young and Marilyn Chivington officiating. Burial will be in McComb Union Cemetery, McComb.
