Alice L. Opsomer, 75, of Hubbard St., Hamler, died of a heart attack at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2 at Defiance Hospital. She was born Sept. 17, 1915 in Marquette, Mich., daughter of Desire and Emerance (Tierbrood) Schippers. She married Oscar Opsomer on July 6, 1940 and he died Nov. 4, 1990. Mrs. Opsomer was a cook with Hamler schools for 17 years. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler and its Altar Rosary Society. Surviving are three sons, Oscar "Pete" Jr. of Scottsdale Arizona, Mike of Bowling Green, Skip of Corona Del Mar, Calif. and a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joanne) Orsoc-Eskin, Columbus; a brother, Louis "Chum" Schippers, Vancouver, Wash., three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Angeline) Van Poppel, New Bavaria, Mrs. Lawrence (Juliette) Kinder, Deshler, and Mrs. Francis (Anne) Beachamp, Marquette, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass was said Wednesday, March 6 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler, the Rev. Joseph Schmelzer officiated. Burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements handled by Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.
