A funeral Mass for Robert W. Swary, 71, of New Bavaria, was said at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria, the Rev. Herman Scherger officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Swary died at 5 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Henry County Hospital, Napoleon. He was born Aug. 28, 1919 in Henry County to Albert and Mary (Dietrick) Swary. He married Dorothy Jostpille on Jan. 24, 1945 and she survives. Also surviving are seven sons, Mark of Cleveland; Gregory of Columbus; Steven of Pickerington; Anthony of Charlotte, Va.; Dennis of Toledo; Kevin of Pandora; Keith at home; five daughters, Mrs. Gary (Barbara) Rettig and Mrs. Larry (Rose Ann) Barth, both of Defiance; Mrs. Donald (Christine) Mershman of Topeka, Ind.; Denise Swary at home; Mrs. Joseph (Amy) Thorne of Scott; a sister, Mrs. Barney (Mary) Schroeder of Leipsic; and 20 grandchildren. Mr. Swary was a fuel oil distributor with Marathon Oil for more than 40 years, having retired recently. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria; the VFW, New Bavaria; and American Legion, Ottawa.
