Sophia Sonnenberg, 100. of Holgate died Sunday afternoon in The Lutheran Home at Napoleon, where she had resided since 1985. Born in Marion Township of Henry County Dec. 11, 1890, she was the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Witte) Lange. On April 8, 1912, she married George H. Sonnenberg, and he preceded her in death Jan. 23, 1967. She and her husband farmed in the Holgate area until their retirement in 1945. She was a lifetime member of the Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hamler, and a charter member of its Women of the Church. Surviving are four sons, Hugo of rural Hamler, Victor of rural Holgate, Gilbert of Wauseon and Roger of Napoleon; two daughters Hulda Hahn of rural Hamler and Regina Germann of Napoleon; a half-brother, Paul Meyer of Hamler; a half-sister, Pauline Panning of Deshler, a step-sister Emma Rabe of Pinconning, Mich.; 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Ernest, William, Fred and Carl Lange, a step-sister, Erna Arps; a step-brother, Martin Meyer, and a grandson, David Sonnenberg. Services were held at 11a.m., on Wednesday, April 24 in the Hope Lutheran Church, Rev. Norman Norden officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.
