Word has been received that former Holgate and Napoleon resident Lawson D. Sharpe, 71 of Sterling Heights, Mich., died Sept. 8 in that city. Born in Henry County on Dec. 23, 1919, he was the son of Bryan and Frances (Wulff) Sharpe. A U. S. Air Force veteran who served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, he owned and operated a restaurant in Holgate for a time following his discharge from the service. He then moved to Detroit and worked as a millwright retiring from the Fisher Body Fleetwood Division in 1987. Surviving are his wife, Mary; his mother; son, John, of Deshler; stepdaughter, Sharon Rybick of Sterling Heights; brothers, Eldon of Rossford, and James of Liberty Center; sister, Patricia Heilman of Liberty Center; two granddaughters; four step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Earla Sharpe and brother, Clyde. Services were held in Sterling Heights on Sept. 14.
