Gertrude Schwab, 84, of Deshler, died April 29 in Oak Grove Quality Care Nursing Center, Deshler. Mrs. Schwab was born on March 24, 1907 in Ottoville, to Michael and Elizabeth (Eickholt) Miller. She married John E. Schwab on July 1, 1939, and he died July 23, 1985. Surviving are her sons, Tom of Custar, and Jack of Monroe, Mich.; daughter Margaret Okuley of Maumee; seven grandchildren and a sister, Emma Dibling, Carey. Mrs. Schwab was a registered nurse and nursing instructor in Boston, San Antonio, Tex., New Haven, Conn., and at Mercy Hospital, Toledo. She graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing, Toledo in 1929 and from the former Mary Manse College, Toledo in 1931. Mrs. Schwab was a Wood County Hospital guild member and served on the hospital staff. She later worked at Oak Grove Quality Care Nursing Center as a registered nurse. Mrs. Schwab was an American Red Cross nurse for more than 50 years, receiving her membership at the headquarters in Washington, D. C. She did graduate studies at Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. and was active in the League of Nursing and in the annual United Way campaigns. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler, and its Rosary Altar Society and Rosary Missions Guild. A funeral mass was said on May 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler with the Rev. Joseph Schmeizer officiating. Burial was in the St. Louis Cemetery, Custar. Visitation was held on May 1 at Snyder-Bloor Funeral Home, Deshler, where the Rosary was recited at 5:30 p.m.
