Edwin Smith, almost 41 years old worked for the B & O Railroad. At the time of his death, he had charge of a switching crew and worked in the Chicago yards. In jumping on the foot board, which was covered with ice, his feet slipped and he fell and was injured in such a manner that he died after great suffering in about 10 hours. His remains were laid to rest in the New Hampshire cemetery.
