Mrs. Susanna Barbara Schnabele, daughter of Jacob and Maria Harding, was born on March 31, 1856, in Schweitzingen, Baden, Germany. When a few weeks old she was baptised and at the age of fourteen was confirmed with a class of 101 at the Evangelical Protestant church in Schweizingen. She was the oldest of five children, of whom only her youngest brother, Mr. Fred Harding of San Antonio, Texas, survives. When yet a young girl, her father was taken in death and she became the provider for the family. She took up the dressmaking trade and in this way managed to keep the wolf from the door. In the month of August, 1888, she came to America, and was married in that same month to Mr. Henry Schnabele. For the last thirty-six years she has been a sufferer with different ailments. Five years ago she was afflicted with gall bladder trouble which was eventually followed by cancer. On April 26 she was operated on in a Toledo hospital. The operation, however, prolonged her life but a few months. Finally, on Sunday morning at 5 o'clock, October 23, 1927, it pleased the Lord to call her home out of this vale of sorrows. She had attained the age of 71 years, 7 months and 23 days. During her long serious illness she was always a patient sufferer and was repeatedly strengthened by her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She has been a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran church since the year of its founding, 1888. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Henry Schnabele; her brother, Mr. Fred Harding; two children -- Mr. Henry Schnabele and Mrs. Mary Behrens, and five grandchildren.
Services were conducted from the Immanuel Lutheran church in Deshler, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of the pastor, Rev. A. Boomgarden, after which interment was made in Woodlawn cemetery.
