MRS. J. STEWART DIES AT HOSPITAL
Death Came Five Days After Operation in Maternity Hospital, Toledo
Mrs. John H. Stewart of this place, aged 45 years, passed to her reward on Monday night, July 12th at 10 o’clock, at the Maternity and Children’s hospital in Toledo, five days after she had submitted to an operation for tumor. Mrs. Stewart was born in Deshler and had been a life long resident of her native birth place. While her serious illness had covered but three weeks, Mrs. Stewart had been ailing for many years, suffering more than she ever told, through her years of suffering and frailty, she bore it patiently and cared for the various duties of her home. When told that the operation was her only hope from suffering, she consented to enter the Maternity and Children's hospital on the advice of her physician. Her husband accompanied her to the hospital on Sunday, July 4th, where the surgeon gave them every encouragement to believe that treatment prior to the operation would make it successful and that her condition indicated that the operation would give her permanent relief and restore her to good health. The operation however, developed the fact that there were not only tumors, but cancerous growth, and though she made a heroic fight for her life, death came to her relief five days following the operation, which was performed on Tuesday, the 6th.
About three weeks ago, Mrs. Stewart’s cousin and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miley, came from Battle Creek, on a visit. Owing to Mrs. Stewart’s health, the cousins remained, Mrs. Miley helping with the work in the home.
The Rader and Spangler ambulance brought the remains to Deshler and their funeral home on Tuesday morning, where it lies in state until this (Thursday) afternoon, when the funeral services will be conducted from the United Brethren church at 2 o’clock, in charge of the pastor, Rev. M. K. Kruse. Burial will he made in Circle cemetery, where other members of the family sleep in the beautiful silent city of the dead. Mrs. Stewart was the sole surviving member of her family.
Bunamah Long, beloved wife of John H. Stewart. daughter of Daniel and Angelina Myers Long, was born in Deshler, Ohio, December 10, 1881, continuing her residence here until the close of her life's work. On August 25, 1908, she was united in marriage with John H. Stewart. There are remaining to mourn their loss, the husband, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Josephine Dunn of Sidney, Ohio, four grandchildren, several cousins and a large circle of friends. Her age was 45 years, 7 months and 27 days.
