In the sudden death of Mrs. David Swartz, Radnor and Thompson townships lost one of their noblest women.
In her winsome ways and kindly deeds, she had endeared herself to both church and community. Much could be written in regards to her intense desire to build up a Christian Church in Eagleville. For months and years she labored in the little church and Sunday school with much success. Mrs. Swartz seemed to be the very soul of the movement. Later she became a member of the Congregational church and was always a sister beloved and highly esteemed for her work's sake. Much more beautiful and fragrant than that of the flowers of which she was so passionately fond, was the beauty and fragrance of her joyful and helpful life. In his address at the funeral her pastor spoke of four characteristics of the true woman, namely, loyalty to husband, industry, sympathy and kindly speech, and he claimed these four things shone forth with unusual lustre in the life of the deceased.
Mrs. Swartz was also an enthusiastic granger and was perhaps one of the best known grangers in Delaware county. She had attended many state and national grange meetings and was at the time of her death busily preparing to accompany her husband to the onw soon to be held in Cleveland. Mrs. Swartz was born in Zanesville, Dec. 22, 1862, and was the daughter of Frederick and Anne Geeson. On June 14, 1894 [year is uncertain], she was united in marriage to David Swartz. Mr. and Mrs. Swartz moved to Radnor in 1906 where they have since made their home. Mrs. Swartz died suddenly of heart failure Sunday, November 14, 1920, aged 57 years, 11 months and 8 days. Mrs. Swartz at the time of her death was a member of the official board of the Congregational church. She was also a seventh degree granger. She is survived by her husband, her aged father, two sisters and three brothers. Burial was in the Radnor cemetery. Both relatives and friends are bowed down with grief because 'her sun has gone down while it is yet day.' Still it is a great consolation to know that it has done down only to rise in a world infinitely fairer than this.
