Funeral services for Grace L. Showman Palmer, 66, of Van Buren, were at First Church of the United Brethren in Christ, the Revs. Dan Young, Roger Overmyers, and Sharon A. Showman officiating. Burial was in Van Buren Cemetery. Mrs. Palmer died July 18 at Winebrenner Extended Care Facility. She was born March 12, 1921, in Detroit to John Fred and Pearl (Sheridan) Yerkie. She married Frank Showman, Jr. on Aug. 22, 1952 in Livonia, Mich., and he died March 30, 1957. She then married James L. Palmer, Sr., on Nov. 8, 1958 and he survives. Also surviving are a son, James L. Palmer, Jr., of Van Buren; four daughter, Sharon A. Showman of Arcadia, Mrs. Dennis (Sandra L.) Myers of Deshler, Mrs. Ruben (Sheila M.) Martinez of Houston, Texas, and Susan F. Showman of Van Buren; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Lorena Smith of Port Huron, Mich., and Betty Bossenberger of Southfield, Mich. Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker. She graduated from Royal Oak High School in Detroit and attended the University of Michigan. She was honored by the Van Buren High School music boosters for outstanding volunteer work in 1974. Mrs. Palmer served in the Women's Army Corps from 1943-45. She was a member of the Women's Care and Share Fellowship, Women's Missionary Association, First Church of United Brethren in Christ and the church's 50's Plus Club.
