John Bender, a B & 0 fireman, had finished cleaning his train and stepped back on the main track and was hit by a fast approaching passenger train. He was knocked against his own engine, illing him instantly. Both legs and one arm were broken and his head was crushed. The remains were prepared for shipment to his home in Willow Creek, Indiana.
