Louis "Pete" Spurgeon Jr., 64, of 502 E. Elm St., Deshler, died Sept. 20 at Wood County Hospital after a three-month illness. He was born July 30, 1923 in Holgate to Louis and Daisy Spurgeon. he married Pearl Firman on Dec. 28, 1963 and she survives. Also surviving are four sons, Michael, Richard, Louis P., all of Deshler, and Stephen of Hamler; two stepsons, Wayne Firman Jr. of Ottawa and John Firman of Ottawa; two stepdaughters, Mrs. David (Nancy) Trenkamp of Holgate and Mrs. David (Cheryl) Heckerman of Deshler; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, David of Deshler and John of Napoleon; and three sisters, Mrs. Wilford (Mae) Henry of Fort Myers, Fla.; Mrs. James (Emma) Yuille of Toledo and Mrs Robert (Jeannette) Peterman of Big Prairie. Spurgeon retired in 1983 as a superintendent for Stout Construction Co., Sylvania. He worked there for 18 years. He. served in the U. S. Army. Funeral services were held at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home in Deshler with the Rev. Stephen Silvey officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
