Came to America from Berlin, Germany. Was believed to have a son and daughter still living in Berlin. Was a barber by trade in Deshler, but was perceived to be well educated and cultured, and many believed coming to Deshler was a step down in his life. He was depressed and committed suicide in a room at the rear of his barber shop.
