Donald 'Buzz' Rutter, 75, of Deshler, died Friday, Jan. 28, in Medical College of Ohio.
He was born June 6, 1924, in Deshler to Roy D. and Esme C. (Rayle) Rutter. He married Sara 'Sally' Louise Griener on Aug. 27, 1946, in Leipsic and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Rutter was a Lottery Agent for the Ohio Lottery Commission. He was a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the Deshler American Legion Post 316, and the VFW Post # 9547 in Lelpsic. He also was a member of the CBIVA (China, Burma, and India Veteran Organization), and a member of Deshler First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his sons Allen L. (Jane), of Lambertville, MI; Ronald R. (Cathy), of Deshler, and Douglas L. (Denise), of Leipsic; daughter, Marsha Contreras, of Findlay; sisters, Mildred N. Powell of Deshler; Eileen (Wayne) Phillips, of Deshler, and Lynne (Robert) Line of Elida; 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert, Clifford. Edward, Robert, and Paul 'Porky', and sister, Carol Myers.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 31, in the Rodenberger Funeral Home in Deshler, with the Rev. R. L. Barnett officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded by members of the Deshler American Legion Post 316.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Deshler Legion Veterans Memorial, or to a charity of the donorβs choice.
