John W. Clayton, 72, of 241 N. Park St. in Deshler, died Monday at his residence of an apparent heart attack. he was born March 24, 1914, in Bowling Green to John S. and Verne E. (Ramsey) Clayton. He married Kathleen King on June 15, 1938, and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Joan) Cain, Tempe, Ariz., Mrs. Tom (Jeanne) Gerdeman, rural Napoleon and Sue Gerken Deshler; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Max of Deshler. Clayton had owned Clayton Hardware in Deshler for 20 years. He was employed for 10 years as a salesman for R. G. Haley Co., Findlay. He was a former Henry County Republican committeeman and had served on the Deshler Board of Public Affairs. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Deshler, and was an Army veteran of World War II. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home with the Rev. James Shotwell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
