Denzil C. Smith, 83, of 441 S. Pine St., Deshler, died on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at his home. He had been in failing health for several years. He was born June 10, 1897, in Richfield Township, Henry County to William and Alvaretta (Roberts) Smith. He married Hazel Marie Voglesong on April 23, 1920 and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, William E. and Donald C., both of Deshler; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, James E. of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a sister, Mrs. Walter (Geraldine) Martens of Cleveland. Mr. Smith was a World War I veteran in the U. S. Army infantry. He was a charter member of the Eagles and American Legion in Deshler and a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Henry County. He was a member of the Deshler United Methodist Church. Funeral services were at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home, the Rev. George Font officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
