Dewey R. Powell, 91, of Deshler, died May 31 in Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green. He had been in failing health for several months. Mr. Powell was born July 26, 1898, in Deshler to Francis and Ida May (shafer) Powell. He married Mildred Rutter on Dec. 26, 1941, and she survives. Mr. Powell was a ship's captain on the Great Lakes for 48 years. He also served as mayor of Deshler in the 1960's. He was a member of Royal Arch Mason Chapter 201 in Deshler and the Bartlow Township Historical Society. Also surviving are sons James of Batesville, IN, Stephen of Miller City, daughter Beth Powell of Toledo; three grandchildren; sisters Nanna Ward of Belmore and Opal Dangler of Leipsic and a brother Edward of Deshler. Funeral services were held June 3 at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, the Rev. Barry Weyant officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
