H. C. Powell is buried Friday.
Funeral of Former Board Member Attended by His Many Deshler Friends.
[First two paragraphs of prose omitted]
And so again has this community been saddened by the apparently untimely passing of one of the most familiar personages that has trod the streets of our village, for the past sixteen years being assoicated in one way or another with the general activities of the town.
Henry Clyde Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Powell was born at Townwood, Putnam County, Ohio, May 29th, 1890 and departed this life at his late home in Deshler, O., March 17th, 1931, having attained the age of 40 years 9 months and 18 days.
On February 10th, 1913 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara May Muth, and to them were born six children.
The deceased leaves to mourn, his companion, two sons and four daughters, namely, Norman Winfield, 17, Ruby Ruth, 15, Pauline Rose, 13, Helen Leona, 9, Evelyn Louise, 6, and Kenneth Eugene, about 2 years of age.
He also leaves in sorrow his father, Mr. Frank E. Powell of Deshler and brothers and sisters as follows: Charles Powell, Hoytville, O.; Roscoe Powell of Deshler; Lincoln Powell, Deshler; Dewey Powell, Loraine, O.; Edward Powell, Deshler; Mrs. Byron Ward, Gilboa, O.; Mrs. John Morris, Columbus Grove, O.
He had been preceeded in death by his mother and two sisters.
Besides his family ties, the departed has left in sadness an unusually large circle of neighbors and friends. He had been engaged in several different kinds of business and in all he had won the confidence of his fellow citizens. He had been a member of the Deshler board of education for six years, having resigned a short time ago preparatory to moving to his farm this spring. He served in this official capacity with the general welfare of the Deshler Schools at heart, and endeavored to do his duty in every way as a school board member.
For many years Mr. Powell had been a faithful member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and Bartlow Encampment, in which counsels he will be very greatly missed.
Having spent all his married life in Deshler, excepting one year, he had become very much interwoven in the social fabrics of his home town and therefore will be greatly missed at every angle. But there shall linger in the wake of his departure a community of fond memories and pleasant recollections for the one that has flown on before.
[Two short poems omitted]
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. Snider. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, near Deshler.
