Charles Parnell, engineer on a narrow gauge railroad used in the grading work on the B. T. & L. Malinta-Durbin cut-off near Napoleon was scalded to death. He was pulling a string of dirt cars to the railroad grade when the engine hit a chuck hold and overturned. The accident happened near a steam shovel. Mr. Parnell was held between it and the overturned engine. Steam from a broken pipe scalded his entire body. heroic work of companions released Mr. Parnell from the trap and he was rushed to Memorial Hospital at Napoleon, but he soon died as a result of his terrible burns. He was employed by the Ross Construction Company. He gave his address as Chicago. Burial in St. Augustine Cemetery.
