Obituary: Doris Louise Payne, 87, of Deshler, died Friday, June 13, 2008, in the Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore. She was born April 10, 1921, in Deshler to Harry and Vergie (Brown) Stiles. On March 3, 1946, she married Clayton R. Payne in Deshler and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1998. Mrs. Payne was a 1939 graduate of Deshler High School and a former telephone operator in Deshler. She was a member of Deshler United Methodist Church and was formerly the secretary of the church's women's society. She was also a member of Deshler American Legion Post #316 Auxiliary and the former Deshler VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by 9 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ethel Moses, Elsie Hillard, Mildred Stiles, Margaret Stiles, Vera Swihart and Ina Kennedy, and brothers, Glen Stiles, Lawrence Stiles and Melvin Stiles. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the church. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Deshler United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
