Ruth Adella Haynes, daughter of David and Emily Haynes, was born September 6, 1846, in Tiohoga County, Pennsylvania.
At the age of 9 years she came to Ohio with her parents, locating at Henrietta Hills, where she made her home until her marriage, March 28, 1867, to Frederick S. Sherman, after which she came to Grand Rapids, Ohio. Later coming to Deshler which has been her home since 1874 -- a period of 52 years.
To this happy union were born ten children -- five sons and five daughters. Her husband and four children having preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sherman has always lived a christian life, joining the Baptist church when she was 16 years. After coming to Deshler she united with the Methodist church of which she has been a faithful member until her death.
Mrs. Sherman was summoned to her reward December 2, 1926, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 26 days.
She leaves to mourn their loss, two sons, Thede Sherman of Detroit and Irvin of Deshler, and four daughters, Mrs. Lillian Butts of Toledo; Mrs. Clara Young, Mrs. Ida Flick and Mrs. Nellie Lytle, all of Deshler. Also 13 grand-children, 5 great-grandchildren, and a half sister, Mrs. Hattie Reigle, and a host of friends.
(Ruth (Haynes) Sherman also has an obituary on December 2, 1926, but the copy is unreadable. However, it is possible to discern that she died at the home of her daughter, Clara (Sherman) Young, on West Maple Street, Deshler.
