Funeral services for Ernest W. Nickels, 88, of Route 2, Deshler, were held at Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler with the Rev. Paul Lehenbauer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bloor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Nickels died Oct. 17 at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Deshler. He was born in Henry County on July 31, 1899, to Frank and Mary (Tietje) Nickels. He married Marie Bostelman on May 3, 1928, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughtes, Betty and Bernice, borth at home; and a brother Richard of McClure. Nickels retired from farming in 1962. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and a former member of its Men's Club, and held several offices on the church council.
