Ray Newell, 89, of 533 Clinton Court, Findlay died on Saturday at the Marlesta Nursing Home following a lengthy illness He was born April 1, 1891, in Putnam county to John and Elva (Saul) Newell. He married Lodema Powell in 1917, and she died in 1924. He later married Elsie Cole, and she died May 21, 1977. He is survived by a son, Lester of McComb; a daughter, Mrs. Fred (ida Mae) Craft of Botkins; a stepson, Stanley Cole and a stepdaughter, Mrs William (Blanche) Carlson, both of Tacoma, Wash.; a brother, Osro Newell of Deshler; two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Dorotha) Kerns of Deshler, and Mrs. Clara Stevens of Oak Grove Manor, Deshler; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren Mr. Newell was a retired farmer and a Hancock county Highway Department employee. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Findlay. Funeral services were held at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, the Rev. Russell Goldner officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
