James C. Mercer was struck by a B & O passenger train at North Baltimore and instantly killed. He was walking down the track to his home near Denver, one mile west of that place. The passenger train is athrough one and it is a mystery to all why Mercer did not see the approaching train as he walked directly towards it. The engine struck him, nearly cutting him in two and his body was hurled 50 feet away.
