John Mackey, an old soldier who resided in Deweyville, left home ato go to the home of a friend named Bloom, residing in the country between Deweyville and McComb, and at the point along the river about a mile and a half east of the former lace the unfortunate man was caught in the current and swept down he stream. Several people residing near the scene heard Mackey's cries, but were unable to render any assistance. His body was found the next day after he was drowned about a mile down the stream from where he fell in.
