World War II, U.S. Army Air Force, Second Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24J, 743rd Bomber Squadron, 455th Bomber Group. Immediately after releasing their bombs over the target at the oil refineries of Blechhammer (Nazi-occupied K?dzierzyn-Ko?le, southwestern Poland) the B-24 took a direct flak hit and the aircraft broke in two.
